Tejitu was only 3 years old when her parents noticed she was having trouble seeing
As she got older, her sight worsened. In school, she had to sit close to the blackboard to see. Tejitu's parents tried to get treatment for her when she was 15 years old, but they couldn't afford transportation to the hospital.

Then one day, a Seva Canada outreach worker met Tejitu and took her to a screening camp.
She was diagnosed with an absorbed cataract and needed surgery to fix it.

Thanks to Seva donors, Tejitu received sight-restoring cataract surgery.
After the bandages were removed, Tejitu could see again. She was no longer shy and introverted. She became alive!

Help provide glasses to 2,000 children in time for the new school year!

Don’t let the new school year go by in a blur for kids in need around the world.

Imagine sitting in a classroom, struggling to decipher the words on the blackboard or on the pages of a textbook. These challenges not only hinder a child's educational progress but can also affect their self-esteem and social interactions.

Yet, an unassuming pair of glasses holds the power to create a profound and immediate impact on a child’s life. Sight is more than just healthy vision; it’s a path to a brighter future full of potential.

Together, we can help 5000 children see and succeed this school year with a pair of glasses. Your gift, no matter the amount, will transform a child's life and future.

A gift of $25 provides 5 children with a pair of prescription glasses.

“Vision is very important because it will allow him to learn properly in school and find a job in the future.” said his mother, Srey Neath.

Give Glasses to a Child like Vireak

The age of six can be a time of incredible discovery: Kids enter grade one, make friends, begin the process of learning to read, and start to explore the world with more independence. When Vireak in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, entered grade one in 2019, it became apparent that he wasn't keeping up in class and had trouble seeing clearly.

Fortunately, Vireak's friend had recently begun to wear glasses, and he recommended the Eye Clinic at the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) to help improve his vision.

Accompanied by his mother, Srey Neath, Vireak visited AHC and was diagnosed with high myopia, a rare type of high-degree nearsightedness. Vireak’s parents were concerned about the impact of his high myopia on his education and future prospects but more urgently, they were worried they couldn’t afford the glasses he so desperately needed. His parents were relieved to learn that their son’s prescription glasses would be provided free of charge, thanks to Seva Canada donors.

"Glasses will allow him (Vireak) to see objects clearly and help protect him against more vision loss. Thus, we encourage him to wear glasses consistently and come for follow-up visits every six months to monitor his progression."

- Mr. Moeurn Sokhom, the AHC's Eye Clinic Manager

Today, Vireak can see clearly with the use of his glasses. He’s an active 11-year-old, happily attending school, learning, and playing with friends – just like other kids his age. Recently, Vireak and his mother were at the AHC for one of his follow-up visits and for a new free pair of glasses to replace his broken pair.

Vireak's mother, Srey Neath celebrated; "We are so grateful for the high-quality services provided at AHC, especially for the treatment that children can get free of charge, including custom glasses."

"As I am legally blind and live in a high-income country, I have been afforded luxuries that would not have necessarily been provided in other regions of the world. I strongly believe that we should not be limited by the birth lottery for social, geographical, and gender statuses, but rather be supported and raised by humanity to be the best versions of ourselves."

- Rupinder, Seva Canada donor

“When I was a little boy in a primary school, I had a vision problem myself and I really struggled in school. I was lucky, I had a very good teacher. She noticed that I always wanted to sit very close to the board. She asked my mother to take me to an ophthalmologist who ultimately realized I had very high myopia. And when I got glasses, my vision improved and also my marks in class. I realized how glasses, costing less than $5, can change a child’s destiny. And from that time I said, this is what I want to do. I remember saying to my mother that I want to help kids to have good vision when they go to school. From that time, I knew I was going to be an ophthalmologist.”

- Dr. Levi Kandeke, Burundian Ophthalmologist and Seva partner

- Vireak's grateful mother, Srey Neath.

“I am very happy and relieved that there is accessible pediatric eye care in Siem Reap. Without AHC’s services, it would have been very challenging to get help for Vireak. My child would’ve faced a complete vision loss,” said Srey Neath.
